Good question.
From Amazon :
Built-In PDF Reader: Your Kindle can now display PDF documents natively. Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go.

So I guess but can someone confirm it ?

Calibre

Pretty much makes all arguments over file formats pointless.

That said, the Kindle is awesome because of free internet, built-in dictionary, notes and such
(and the keyboard makes all of that accessible)

Also, E-ink is a lot easier to read than pretty much any other device with a screen.

luddite. I don't care if you can't handle progression, don't get your pissy pants elitism up on anyone who can evolve. it is an amazing idea, 1500 books at any one time, no backlight meaning less or no glare, built in dictionary, and no need to use a computer to download. there will always be a spot in my heart for paper, but this is like when digital cameras first came out, all the pro SLR fanboys refused adamantly to use DSLR, despite the fact it was blatantly better, just for nostalgic reasons

>> No.746550

Putting books into the hands of people who will never read them. Fucking brilliant.

>> No.746600

Takes away the close relationship between reader and book and also makes people eyes bleed faster. These things remove some of the joy of reading. They also ruin the book industry as it will be more popular and easier to pirate books the way we pirate movies today. It will be harder for writers to make a living of writing. Money is a great motivator for writing, and I hope that pirating books won't become too easy.

Why am I bithing here, btw? Most of you are the kind of assholes I'm talking about, ruining the industry.

Shame on you.

Good question, let me clarify. I sit next to them, pull out the exact same book that they are reading, smoothly open a bottle of water, drink it and then pour it on their piece of shit electronic device. When they look over in amazed agony, I shrug and keep reading.

I like owning and holding books. I would never buy one because it doesnt work for ME but for people who maybe travel or simply dont have the space for books or hell look at ALL THOES FEATURES its great for them.

I also work in the print industry so I have to support the printed versions.

I have seen the future, and it is a fat man in a realistic pig mask squatting into a cauldron and farting toots most majestic into that cast iron pot - farts so loud and powerful that they sound like dropping a bowling ball in there.

And then the fat man in the pig mask reveals his true face - that of another, smellier butt.

And then - somehow - the butt *winks* at you, and then you smile.

That's exactly fucking it. Any asshole who thinks they're gonna carry all of their books with them when they are traveling is just plain retarded. I used to be this retarded. I brought a shitload of books when my friend and I went on a road trip. He brought his Kindle and I was like everyone of you elitist and was "shitsux" but then after a few days my books started to get heavy and I started to envy the light little device he was carrying around. I still don't think this thing will replace books altogether. But I was reading the Count of Monte Cristo and I forgot to bring it and he just downloaded it for me and let me use it (what a nice guy). I have to admit it was convenient. I feel what the Kindle is to books is what DVD/Bluray/Netflix is to movies and what Steam is to videogames. The other avenues still exist, you can still go to the movie theatre to watch a movie, you can still go to the arcade or go out to Gamestop and purchase a game. There's no reason why this alternative shouldn't exist. Complete opposition to this seems like opposition to the very idea of progress and technology. But I get the feeling that there are quite a few luddites in /lit/ so if this is you, I guess you are justified.

Weakling. If you carried books around with any regularity you wouldn't be complaining about the weight problem because you'd have built up some muscle mass by now.

>> No.747059

>>747032

Actually I do, I usually carry 3-4 hardcover textbooks around regularly. Doesn't mean I am opposed to the very idea of convenience. I could walk 16km to my school everyday with my textbooks doesn't mean that the car or public transportation undesirable. If I have learned anything from my "scholarly pursuits" is that an unwarranted devotion to antiquated forms of anything is dangerous, corrupting, and down right stupid.
