I'm 19 years old.

I am handsome, smart, athletic and virile.

I have a novel that is in it's final editing stage, and a creative writing professor at my college has read the first draft and thinks it's saleable.

I have a girlfriend who is confident, articulate, playful and spontaneous.

I have a small group of interesting friends from different social and academic backgrounds, and I also have many other acquaintances who see me as a reliable source of humour and good company.

Both my parents are alive and in good health.

I have no regrets.

I have already experienced three existential crises, the latter of which was described as having the depth and profundity of a man twice my age.

I am a passionate lover, a sharp thinker, and a trader of witty repartee.

I am not self-pitying, meek or needlessly humble.

I will live a good life at your expense.

>> No.7370277

>Also are things like rhyme and meter actually important?

Some people will tell you they aren't, but they are. I am not saying you have to use them (free verse) but they are important to know.

Consider music. It is important to know time and key, majors and minors etc. To write music. Some of the great musicians go beyong this and have weird timing or keys (one song is actually just a few minutes of silence) but you can bet before they did this they wrote songs in key and certain time.

Or painting. Picasso did some weird shit. But you know that his early work was very good traditional painting.

What I am saying is that you have to understand the techniques and form of an art before you can transcend it. Lots of people don't realize this, that is why free verse poetry nowadays is so shit compared to say Whitman.

It's like telling a kid to make music but not teaching him scales, or telling him to paint without teaching him stroke techniques (or whatever they do, I am not a painter).

>> No.7370293

>>7370277
Also, free verse isn't just not writing in meter. It's not writing in a specific meter. Meter can and should still be used, but it can be played with.
In the absence of meter, other rhetorical devices should be used.
