I think taking anti-depressants can definitely fuck up your brain in a permanent way. I took a high dose of an SSRI for a few years and it basically made me lose interest in everything and made be basically incapable of truly enjoying things. After I stopped taking them it didn't make me suicidal but I still can't enjoy things the same way I could before I took them.

I just watched finished watching that interview about a week ago. I was watching it in 30 minutes chunks to give it time to sink in. I thought it was really great. I love the part where he talked about "how to rebel" against all of the cultural things he talked about.
