Children of Hurin is better because the subject matter is presented in an older english prose form.

I truly hope that Jackson gets the money to put it out as a standalone R rated movie.

enjoy 2000 pages of exhausting extra dialogue. It's really better to just have someone tell you about it. And I've never said that about a book, but every conversation is like a patient exchanging of essays and letters and explanations, even when in the middle of a battle. And so many characters in the stories don't actually do anything other than drag fellowship out to be as slow starting as possible. There are some cool tidbits, worth knowing about, but I just honestly wish I hadn't put the time and energy in and had had someone take twenty minutes to explain to me what all the movies left out..

I genuinely do not believe it is possible to hold the opinion that only Five Armies was good. It was close to Transformers in its level of CGI shitshow gratuitous violence. If you can enjoy that one, I can't understand why you wouldn't enjoy the others.

Oh, i admit that, i just think it had a great feeling of heroic battles that we hadn't seen in quite some time now and that not even the book couldn't convey(not like it was supposed to, anyway).

If you explain what is in it it sounds amazing but reading it is slow and dry as fuck.
It helps to remember that Tolkien didn't really see himself as a novelist so much as a modern myth-maker or revealer of myth that publishing companies wanted to push as a novelist. The history of Middle-Earth was, to him, a fictional history of our world, like creation myths in religions.

Not really. It feels and reads a lot different than LOTR, and you might appreciate certain parts of LOTR more after having read the Hobbit, but it isnt necessary, just highly reccomended.
