Who or what should one quote in a suicide letter?

1-800-273-TALK (8255) is a suicide prevention hotline available 24/7, toll-free, from anywhere inside the United States. If you're from a different country you will likely have a similar number to call. Do that first.

I believe the poet Jay-Z said it best: "I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one"

>> No.728114

Nothing. It should be a summation of the facts of your life.

I remember reading that a lot of suicide notes are pretty boring like, "Don't let the kids into the room, I'm dead." or "I finished the laundry and set dinner out for you. I'm sorry and I love you."

See you in another life, brotha.

>> No.728118

Don't be predictable and quote someone like Poe or Shakespeare. My suggestion: quote Perec's A Void and try writing your letter in a lipogram with the same constraints, it's easier than it first appears and it's a lot of fun.

>> No.728119

please don't kill yourself

>> No.728127

I wouldn't commit suicide, and I don't recommend it, but if I were terminally ill or something and decided it was necessary, I'd go with Dorothy Parker for irony's sake.

Razors pain you; Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful; Nooses give;
Gas smells awful; You might as well live.

Vonnegut: So it goes...

But don't kill yourself, it's probably not worth it.

i think you guys need to respect OP's wishes whether or not you believe suicide is right or not it is ultimately none of your business what they do to their own life/body/soul

>> No.728143

If the pages of this note contain some successful verse, the reader must excuse me the discourtesy of having usurped it first. Our nothingness differs little; it is a trivial and chance circumstance that you should be the reader of these exercises and I their author.

>> No.728144

If I were to write a suicide note, I'd probably open with:

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents."-The Call of Cthulu

It'd make people think you figured out the meaning of life or something of the sort.

>> No.728147

It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.

Agreed. When I was depressed I wanted my suicide note to be list of everyone I've ever made any type of contact with, and a little message about it. The idea was so epic that I decided if I ever ended up killing myself, I'd have that's what my suicide note would HAVE to be. But the prospect of actually doing it is impossible, considering I'm lazy at best, and that's always stopped me from killing myself.

TL;DR and I'm stoned :D

Malcolm X, his way of thinking had a wonderful evolution, people would think you did the same.

I just listened to a pod-cast in which someone said that their brother committed suicide. Anyways the point was that she thought he did it because he believed his life was of no value, she thought other wise. Whether or not you be trolling, i'd like to say that anonymous is worth something.

Hahaha. You jest. If you don't consider oxycodone a real drug, you obviously haven't parachuted an 80 with a glass of wine. Feels better than heroin, IMO. Which is a real drug, is it not?

actually i am on heroin now, and antidepressants. This feeling is very complex. Since death is not the end, but a departure, I feel little fear in it. I do not wish to elaborate much.

>> No.728224

HAHAHAHAHA. THIS.

>>728207
No, I just don't really care for heroin. Your kind of right though, I only shot up once. I wasn't really into the idea of putting something in my veins that I bought from a nigger in Paterson, so the whole thing just felt dirty. Even the high felt dirty. It turns out it wasn't very good heroin, but that ruined the whole image of heroin for me. I've done it a few times since then, but never IV'd again, I snorted it, and it just doesn't compare. Even with good shit. Maybe if I had IV'd good shit my first time, idk...

>> No.728229

I don't think you should kill yourself, i think you should get help, call a hotline or make an appointment with a doctor.
When my uncle killed himself his letter as something like "don't come in the bedroom, and call the police"
Naturally my cousin opened the door to check on him :(

>> No.728230

>>728219
I understand. For a while I had this feeling where I was trapped, almost. More like everything was a dream, but not a good dream. I wanted to kill myself occasionally when it got really bad to escape, to wake up, if you will, not a sort of end all miseries thing. Turns out it was a form of anxiety and some meds and a little therapy fixed that.

My little brother killed himself 2 years ago. He didn't leave a note at all, and that is why I think leaving one would be important. Anyway calling the hotlines will only result in me being involuntarily commited, it happened to my ex girlfriend and she stayed in the mental hospital for 3 months, involuntarily. Those hotlines call the cops on you.

>> No.728242

>> No.728258

>>728240
Suicide hotlines only call the cops if they're under the impression that you might commit suicide right away.

That said, there are other options. You should try to find someone, ideally a trained professional or someone trustworthy in your life, that you can talk to.

>> No.728263

>>728240
Is the rest of your family full of assholes or dead people? I mean, if both you and your brother want to commit suicide, it would imply something is seriously fucked.

But if nothing's wrong, and it's just retarded little angst that causes you to consider this, you are a selfish little coward. You may think that your life is your own, and it's no-one's business what you do with it, but that is wrong.

Man is not his flesh, a man is his interaction with other human beings. They mold you, and in turn you mold them. The human creature, the flesh, is nothing without other human beings. Look at feral children for instance. They have grown up isolated, and thus they are not truly human. You, on the other hand, are a human. And to be human means to interact with others. And taking one's life, while final to the single part of the web of interactions that is a man, is an act forever imprinted on everything around the victim. A wound in the web that is formed of the people you know.

Although, if there's no-one who could possibly love you, or for some other reason care about your continued existence, go ahead. Just make sure that you don't make a mess of it. Someone's going to have to clean up after you, you know.

>Still don't understand why he killed himself :/

It's pretty clear from the note..

>67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun - for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax - This won't hurt.

We may not live alone, but we will certainly die alone. I think you anons have actually made me reconsider it for a while. I feel like it must happen, eventually, not just death but suicide. Suicide is something that becomes familiar, and tactile (in the interior sense). I don't agree with camus, that the struggle is somehow glorious and worth doing, simply because it is our given condition.

Voltaire:
"This ridiculous weakness is perhaps one of our worst instincts; is anything more stupid than choosing to carry a burden that really one wants to cast on the ground? To hold existence in horror, and yet to hold it? To fondle the serpent which devours us till it has eaten out our heart?"

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
