H.P. Lovecraft had such a broad vocabulary, and used excruciating detail in describing everything he wrote about, which was also controversial, because you have to realize that he was an early 1900's writer, and was quite eccentric.

dont ever compare twilight to HP Lovecraft, in any way. In content, in writing style, in fanbase. Its bound to fucking fail

i found them very interesting and kinda addictive. rather amazing how all these things came from 1 mans mind

I have many of his short stories, and novellas, and also have many an Audiobook. I see his works as an escape for his own wild insanity to find its way out into the world. that's why I am so driven by his works to try to write my own novel.

This is pretty much the definitive critical book on HPL. His writing, his life, even his racism...

That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Well, there's two kinds of HPL fans, the ones that laugh at lame macros like >>723847 and basically understand the mythos through the internet, and then there's the fans that actually read his writing.

Lovecraft is almost all free on web, he was a lifelong amateur. I read Shadow over Innsmouth recently again. Recommend that one! Hybrid fish/man creatures coming out of the harbor taking over a town

This is an outstanding book in its own right, and is indispensable reading for Lovecraft fans. It's kind of sad that S.T. Joshi spent so much time on lovecraft without achieving the insight found here.

What do you think of MH's novels? They turned me off so I didnt read the Lovecraft book.

i liked elementary particles, i've read part of platform and was not as impressed, but don't let that deter you. ps it's available online as a pdf, should be easy to find on google, search for the books title plus "pdf".

Well shit, I just came to /lit/ to make a thread but since this thread is here I'll just ask here.

I have read no Lovecraft, but I want to. Since I'm under the impression he mostly wrote shirt stories, what are the best collection/s to buy? Already planning on getting Dreams of Terror and Death.
