You have a choice to read either The Road or Slaughterhouse-Five...Which one do you choose!?

One with the most votes is the one I will read first.

>> No.720320

Probably Slaughterhouse 5. I didn't enjoy The Road as much as most people I know, but I really like Vonnegut.

>> No.720319

Slaughter House Five without a doubt.

Or, actually, The Road is so bleak you might read if first if you must to get it out of the way.

>> No.720323

Neither is THAT great.

How about you read Cat's Cradle and Blood Meridian first?

>> No.720330

slaughterhouse five

>> No.720335

SL-5

>> No.720336

S5 for sure. The Road was great, but Slaughthouse is just more enjoyable.

>> No.720352

one or the other....

>anhero.jpg

>> No.720354

SL5

>> No.720355

the road.

it's one of the most powerful books i've ever read. blood meridian is also great.

>> No.720374

OP here

I have SL5 as an ebook but I have The Road in actual book form. So yes, despite the majority of SL5 votes I'm going with Road because I don't feel like staring at my computer screen very much longer.

Thanks anyway because now I you made me want to read SL5.

>> No.720386

have read both
both are epic
read vonnegut first his is a classic

>> No.720405

I didn't like The Road, I haven't read Slaughterhouse-Five.

>> No.720480

I liked The Road, haven't read SL5.

Read neither, purchase Lolita, great justice is done.

I tried to read the Road and I really disliked it.
I really enjoyed Slaughterhouse-Five.

So SL-5.

>> No.720570

SL5, by far. Ending of the road was dumbshit.

I'm looking to get another Kurt Vonnegut book but I'm at a loss as to which I should choose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So far I've read:
Slaughter-House 5
Breakfast of Champions
Timequake
Hocus Pocus
Cat's Cradle
Mother Night
Slapstick

>> No.720582

>>720577

Whoops, sorry. Meant to make a new thread!

>> No.720610

Our lists look basically the same.

Just read God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. It was thoroughly interesting. Currently reading Player Piano. I think it's my least favorite so far.

His collection of short stories, Welcome to the Monkey House, is really quite good, as well.

>> No.720615

The Road, since I havent read it yet.

>> No.720786

>>720577
Sirens of Titan

>> No.720801

wow no competition
slaughterhouse

>> No.720808

slaughter house 5

>> No.720814

I've read both and I honestly cannot answer.
Basically, it's choosing between two vastly overrated books, the lesser of two evils. SH5 is more enjoyable, The Road is more powerful. Make your decision from that.

>> No.720938

Slaughterhouse five if its really between those two.

Cormac Mccarthy is almost universally regarded as the greatest living author alive today, so you should read some of his stuff though. I choose to write in my ballot for Blood Meridian. Its so good yale teaches a course on it. Harold bloom thinks its one of the greatest books ever. If you dont know who harold bloom is, you dont belong on lit.

get a library card. even any small town shitty underfunded library will have two copies of slaughterhouse five.

>> No.720946

>>720577
Sirens of Titan isnt on that list, and is my favourite vonegut out of the 5 ive read.

>> No.720956

So we can't chose anything that isn't teen lit?

>> No.721091

My campus has a pretty extensive library. I have no reason to go there because it's Summer but If it's looking like I need to compile a giant list of wanted books and go and raid the bookshelves.

>> No.721122

>>720956
u so harcor.

Slaughterhouse 5 first ofc, The Road is smalltime in comparison and probably the least best thing McCarthy has written.

>> No.721132

I'd go with 'The Road'. I've read both, but The Road stuck in my mind longer than Slaughter-House Five did.

>> No.721273

vonnegut.
more people know this than the road, so you'll multiply conversational potential.
the road isn't mccarthy's best novel and rather monotonous.

>> No.721290

Slaughterhouse 5.
Nobody can write like Vonnegut.
Because the man was beautifully insane.

Your response to this "pollution" is an assault on everyone's eyes.
Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

>> No.721314

>>721294
by pollution you mean a discussion about two pieces of literature in a forum dedicated to the discussion of literature?

>> No.722693

Having already read both, S.Laughter House 5

>> No.722701

I'd say go with Slaughterhouse 5.
The house always wins.

>> No.723633

slaughter house 5 is one of the best books ive ever read, the road is great but didnt have even close to the impact on me

>> No.723646

infinitely slaughterhouse five

i've also read both

go with slaughterhouse 5. you'll get through it quickly.

OP here, wtf this thread is still alive? lol

I went out and tried to find SL5 in a used book store but no luck.
