Waiting on William Gibson to arrive. Have you been able to see/meet any of your favorite writers? Pics?

>> No.7205614

If your favorite writer is still alive then you need better taste

>> No.7205620

what kind of things do authors talk about at these?

Other than having friends, is there an easy way to know when authors are going to do these things?

Normally, to bring new readers up to speed, authors will do a small bio and tell about the events that got them writing, they'll linger on their biggest sellers (I mean jesus, the guy created his own genre) and then tell about the new book, maybe read a passage, and then take Q and A before meet and greet with signings. Also getting a copy of Neuromancer autographed.

Google someone you'd like to see and if they have a new book, they're probably doing a tour.

I saw Mr. Pinecone on a train in Brooklyn once. He had his eyes closed and was pretending to be asleep though.

Ask him what it feels like to walk into a book signing with only a half dozen NEETS getting the only book he wrote well autographed.

>> No.7205994

Congrats on getting to see Gibson in the flesh. He, Stephenson, and Pynchon are my favorite authors.

I went to a lecture Ihab Hassan, arguably the founder of postmodernism, gave at my university about five years back. He discussed whether nationalism had a place in 21st century literature. I think he was basing it on a lecture he wrote called Janglican. Good stuff.

I saw David Attenborough once at the Natural History Museum in London I think back in 2005 but 13 year old me couldn't be bothered to wait in line.

I got a signed copy of The Fear by Peter Godwin at the Perth Writer's Festival in 2013 I think. That was pretty cool.

>> No.7206092

I saw Eoin Colfer talk back when I read his books, so I was probably about 12 or 13. He was honestly fucking hilarious, or at least 13 y/o me thought so. He signed my copy of The Eternity Code. Was a good day.

You sure it wasn't Robert Crumb you saw?

>> No.7206412

Not sure about most of /lit/'s opinion on him (never seen any discussion about him but I have a feeling it's negative), but I've always loved Neil Gaiman's stuff and I saw him give a Q&A and read a few of his short stories before they were published at my university.

Real cool guy. Good stories and gave a lot of good motivational advice. As in, not just motivational bullshit, but actual advice for actually motivating yourself to write.

In life, I see people mention that they're reading neuromancer a lot, but I have to imagine they don't finish it or else more would mention that there's a fucking Rastafarian space colony in the book.

Theres a Rastafarian space colony in Neuromancer. They worship God with their beats.

Hey gas-kun, thanks for keying me in. He's coming to LA in November, I'm going to go see him and get a couple of books signed.

I saw Ainsley Harriot in a Sainsbury's in Fulham when I was around 14 years old.

No, this was pre-meme Ainsley. I am somewhat convinced I helped create the Ainsley Harriot meme when I first posted this story on /b/ in like 2010. I remember posting it and a bunch of people didn't know who he was and when they found out people started spamming images of him.
