Moomin isn't an author, and I've already read everyone mentioned there and none of them are shit. Reading Pater can be taxing but the payoff is enormous. I don't much care for Vidal's fiction, but I enjoy his essays. Le Guin has only a few novels that interest me. Braudel is one of the most interesting historians I know of. Beauvoir's feminism is agreeable, but it's her memoirs that fascinate me the most.

I mentioned Braudel and Pater on /lit/ before I ever saw Butterfly or anyone else mention them, so for all I know I could be the one who got her into them.

Butterfly's no rusemaster. She's the only woman I've ever loved.

You do deserve it all, though.
You know this is the only place where you can be respected because you have horrible taste and you seem to think you can hold political opinions and opinions in general without having arguments for them or understanding anything about them. You don't argue, you just make jokes about your opponents.
I would even say you have steeped this board in insincerity and pseudo-intellectualism.
I am sure you are reasonably well-read,
as I know I am "reasonably" well-read,
but you don't know nearly as much as you let on,
and that does not mean I can read your mind but rather that you mention things and express things even though the traditional definitions of the words and the literature related to them have not yet been rehearsed.

Also, you are the only "trip" who has had to say goodbye before leaving, instead of silently dissipating like the others,
mainly because you appeal to the lowest common denominator, and pretend that you have taste and understand literature, proliferating Hitchens/Vidal trash as if reading them is any different from reading the blurb of a Muesli box.

Is this cruel? You are cruel.

This isn't "baring the brunt".
It was never that. It was genuine criticism.
Just having read is not okay. When you genuinely know something,
return as someone who has and in a sincere way, until then you have been and are trash, despite the troglodyte orbiters that surround you.

It's a bit of a meme now I guess. If you think a few years back the whole Dawkins god delusion bullshit was a lot more popular, I think a couple of years before /lit/ existed they had threads on /b/ and /r9k/ about stupid things he's posted (esp. that doozy about a penis being the least dangerous thing a vicar can put into a young boy, or something to that effect anyway). So early lit was at the tail end of that.

There were quite a few Chris Hitchens threads, people who'd read some new atheist clap trap and wanting to be debated, and so many spergs arguing that atheist didn't mean they didn't believe in all gods just not that one god (as if that somehow made it more rational) and o aren't we all atheists really etc etc. And I'm p sure we got some of the Sam Harris publicity spam posting. So a lot is down to here being the philosophy board too and New Atheists deciding they could do philosophy because they believed they could.

And the default position now tends to be a kind of agnosticism, tends to fit in better with the postmodern era. Again, new atheism with their agnosticism is cowardice rhetoric

Chinese literature as compared to Western literature is as interesting as elaborate /x/ pseudo-scientific theories regarding the laws of physics and dimensions are to hard science; as tumors are to doctors; as non-practical, yet somewhat interesting sounding instruments are to a musician; as Langan's theory to anyone with the competency to understand it; i.e. it's a mere curiousity, nothing more. To expect me to take anything of their sort seriously is just quite plainly pathetic. Chinese literature is merely a sidenote compared to the vast folio of influence that is the Western literature.

They're two of the four classical novels of the Chinese canon. The Dream of The Red Chamber has an entire school of exegesis dedicated to it called Redology, though the Chinese terms are slightly different in sematic value to the English ones I am using to explain it to you. You are quite pretenious by namedropping your so special Chinese 'classic' and getting mad at me for dismissing it for what it is - utter shite. But my man, how am I supposed to get the reference just like that? I either get a reference or I don't; I don't google something up and aknowledge that I got it just for the sake of appearing as if I fit in. I haven't read Chinese literature at all and I feel certain prejudice against it. It's perhaps that their names sound so ever boring and repetive, their history seems a one big turd of something something dinasty, emperor kills lotsa people, heavenly mandate, yada yada, or, more importantly, what annoys me the most is that I feel like that Chinese literature is way overblown. There is something instinctively telling me that there is something absolutely depressing about China. I can't stand it. China is as foreign as Mars to me - all of the Zhangs, Zhis and alike produce no lasting imaginings or images produced by my active imagination. My passive imagination only springs forth something depressive. Think of it like a background to your thoughts, that mostly unconscious mass from wherein your feelings arise and give a 'color' to your thoughts. Apply that to my perception of arts when I 'look' upon them.

No, I didn't get the joke and didn't want to get it. I don't think I will get it for a long time, not so much that I don't have the mental capacity for it, but more so in that I don't want to bend my mind around something as terrible as China.

You know what I want to do? I want to throw myself in the landscape of old Europe, the Meditarrean and alike. Europe, at least the pretty part, has been the sole idealisation of my life for a longer time now, so I live in it, mentally, through books. Village wherein the young Werther roams, that spring from where those peasants carried away water, those linded trees he was burried under. That France of Revolutionary era, that tale of strong passions. That visage of Medieval humor I already mentioned, that comfy feeling of Renaissance budding as it was written and the attitudes therein reflect it. That beautifully depressive scenery of St.Petersburg, with one monomaniac to be completely unaware of it at most of the times. London, in it's wretched poverty and splendid luxury. Go on, I would, but not now.

I like reading what I like. I like exquisite things. I'm selective. Your books, although they might indeed be pretty and fairly vivid, have no chance to strike images which help me keep my head balanced and furnished with what I perceive as beauty. I might read them, if I feel like it, though not now.

On a simpler note, I was in quite the mood of shitposting and baiting some fellow posters, but here, here is a serious reply if you ever wanted one. Go on, call me names. I'm wretched, but all wretchedness has it's limits and cures.

Here is a comfy image to accomply this post if you wanted to see something comfy.
