The greatest argument against the death penalty is that it's too merciful.

State shouldn't have the power to execute anyone. That basically means we're all just leasing our lives from the state. Personal vendettas should be dealt with by the trespassed party with help of the state. They put the offender in the noose once convicted and sentenced, but the family or next of kin has to drop the door.

As was said before: the death penalty is too merciful. Arguing that it's too costly is asinine - life in prison is even more of a leech of taxpayer money.
