Philosophy is what defines "God" in the first place, so it depends on us to really give a solid definition.

Can someone seriously answer why philosophy isn't obsolete nowadays? I've seen a lot of guys here defend philosophy in this case and I'd genuinely like to hear why philosophy isn't obsolete.

Ehhhhhh, not really. The problem of god is related to the problem of philosophy's relationship to the city. The city defines the gods before the philosopher ever touches them, which is precisely the problem (and it's how you end up with a figure like Spinoza who defines god as nature, doing away with the personal god of the city that needs worshipped).

Philosophy isn't really useful nowadays. At least not in a super pragmatic sense. It's not like you can build a house with it or whatever. The main appeal in philosophy, like art, is that it's what you live for. Examining life helps you grow as a person, introduces you to new ideas, etc, etc. I mean, you don't really have to eat food that tastes good. You'd arguably get a better deal out of eating soylent. Who wants to live off of bland cardboard-esque vitamin mixes though?

"God" is a very old word and it's only within abrahamic religions it's considered "everything" and other gods can't exist besides it/him.

*I* happen to prefer the Old signification of the term; which basically means something like Übermensch and don't support this "modern" re-definition of the term.

*I* find Nature is a better description than "God" for this signification of "everything" and think we should throw childish images away so we can go back to venerating Real Gods instead of some infantile Improbable. Nature should be worshipped more than some desert-god anyway.
