>decide to take Philosophy class called "Ethics & Good Living" with no prerequisites
>think I will get a course outlining the basic problems or foundations of ethics/meta-ethics in philosophy
>instead it's mostly self-help horseshit and letting retarded classmates bullshit about "materialism/consumerism/this generation/America Today, man"
KILL ME

So far, we have read some Epicurus, Tolstoy's "How Much Land does a Man Need," and some shit published int he 90s that was a popular best-selling book called "your money or your life."

Should I just drop this shit class? Looks like we do actually have some real philosophy by Kant and Bentham later in the semester, but I don't know much longer I can take this boring psuedo-intellectual bullshit. He even has a segment on Egosim, but we're reading Rand. Not even Stirner!

you don't get to fundamentals or deeper-level problems in entry level classes. title of the class was a dead giveaway too. this is your own fault.

drop the class

Do you guys even know how to play the game?
Look up your professors. See what kind of shit they've published. Read excerpts of it. Listen to people's opinions of them. Hell, invite someone in the department (your adviser?) to lunch and talk to them about whatshisname. Then you'll know if they're the real deal or not.

Swear to god, the way naming college courses works you could take "20th Century English Lit" and end up reading Portuguese restaurant menus for a whole semester.

Are we in the same class? I got the same text. The poetry class is paired with a semiotics class that focuses on pop culture. Fucking community college man.

You really shouldn't be in college if you need this explained to you.
