It's a movement against the Entropy gradient. Pretty important, considering everything else in the universe moves to more Entropy. Only works as long as Entropy is >0, so life is basically fucked. Unless you believe Teilhard de Chardin, but the guy was crazy and a heretic.

Sorry, meant life has a chance as long entropy is not maximum. Entropy is always >0. Life can exist there, but there's a maximum value based on the encoding number system used.
