When this type of thread pops up, I always get told I'm either not absorbing everything or faking. I think the fact I read and haveily annotated all of Ada or Ardor while on a work shift yesterday and then came home to 200 pages of another book would disprove that but w/e dumb people like to make excuses about their lack of reading ability

I am a slow reader.

Having already psyched myself "up" in this wise, I will now take OP's test, and reply to this post with my results.

Knowing this was timed, my brain turned to goo the moment I started reading. At least I got all the questions right.

Sure enough, I'm a slow reader, but one must factor into my result that I set myself up/pregamed myself to read slowly. The comparison of "average" and "college" adults with various schoolchildren is interesting here.

I recognized my passage as a page from War of the Worlds, which I've read. I was of course self-conscious of my reading while doing this, and I "remembered" (that thing I do constantly when reading) that I tend to skip back multiple words several times per page to be sure I got the passage/phrase.

I think I'm a strange duck. I could read Dr. Seuss to my mother at age 3, and was informed that I read "at a college level" at some point in grade school. They must have somehow measured my reading comprehension. I got all three comprehension questions right afterwards.

Minored in history and philosophy in college, and I just flat out didn't read half of what I was assigned because I just didn't have the time relative to more important classes/assignments.

t. monolingual (pretty much) STEM major college graduate

This is interesting enough to me that I'll do one or two more and intentionally read a bit faster, with same comprehension.

LOWER on the follow-up Alice in Wonderland passage, 188, 3/3 comprehension again.

Also this thing resets to the same WotW passage when you refresh it, so I'm done with it.

Don't worry so much; reading comprehension is much more important than reading pace.

I read slower when doing it for pleasure but I can absorb everything at this pace if it's something I'm not super into.

I'm not a trained speed reader, per se. I place the blame on my genetics and the fact that my brain is unusually large for my skull. It was hard for me growing up reading at a pace beyond my peers. Please heed if you're feeling jealous. Having this reading speed is NO picnic.

Right well... you've added nothing to the discussion. Per usual, I would beckon to think? I'm Edgar. My words are my bond and I should not be discouraged from expressing myself. For you to be that dismissive of me when I so candidly put myself out there only makes YOU look like the imbecile. Now scram!

Granted, the samples they give you are very light and easy reading. Of course I wouldn't be going at this pace when reading something like GR or the Prolegomena
