Is the Meme Trilogy the greatest trilogy of the English language? It perfectly covers the time periods and attitudes of Modernism, Postmodernism, and Post-postmodernism. Bravo /lit/.

Anyone who seriously thinks of Ulysses, Gravity's Rainbow, and Infinite Jest as the "meme trilogy" is not worth listening to.

I am still in partial disbelief that there are people on this board dumb enough to think of real-world works of literature in 4chan terms.

Fuck. That picture started as a joke and there are people on /lit/ now that take it seriously. Jesus christ.

my modest proposal for a new meme trilogy

>> No.6970185

Why did both Joyce and Pinecone both write about being sexually submissive?

Do memes eventually make you get off on being dominated?

>> No.6970187

>>6970141
This is pretty good.

>> No.6970194

>>6970185
Pinecone wrote about being dominant too. He covered the whole spectrum of kink.

>> No.6970198

i hate that cover of the recognitions but otherwise u might b on to summat

>> No.6970205

>>6970141
If you're going to keep Pinecone the other two have to be Joyce and DFW again, so it'd be Finnegans Wake, Mason & Dixon, and The Pale King. If not then you'd need three entirely different authors.

it doesn't change the fact they were all revolutionary books in their own right. for fuck's sake, Ulysses is #1 on some list that some people gave a shit about. what was it, TIME Magazine?

>> No.6970222

Calm down, spergisimo. They're the meme trilogy on this board.

>> No.6970234

Im going to read the meme trilogy in order, as my first 3 books (out of education).

yea except the meme trilogy became a meme trilogy for a reason. do you know the reason anon?

>> No.6970489

aren't people on here forced to discuss meme authors no matter what? it's the only way to get a thread going.

>> No.6970713

>>6970205
The Pale King isn't a meme book though, it's actually enjoyable to read and comprehend.

>> No.6970724

>>6970713
So are the other meme books. It seems you do not understand that here "meme book" is being attributed based on /lit/'s relation to the books, and not the books as independent entities

>> No.6970746

>>6970713
Wait, you mean you didn't legitimately enjoy Infinite Jest? I can't think of any other book that can make people spontaneously laugh out loud just by using a word differently.

>> No.6971239

Why do people think DFW has erudition anywhere near that of the other two? Why do they think his book will still be great a century from now?

>> No.6971242

>>6969927
>Thomas - T-bone
>Joyce - Linguistic pun
>DFW - spaghetti dropping autist

I don't know if it was intentional, but this is beautiful

>> No.6971252

DFW has more of a chance of being remembered than Pynchon ever will. Pynchon will be looked at as a forgotten relic of a meme > 20 years after he dies, meanwhile DFW's capturing of corporate consumer America will be cherished and seen as representative of our times.

I think Moby Dick, The Recognitions and M&D are all minor memes on this board. Hence the new trilogy.

>> No.6973965

>>6973918
I keep hearing good things about M&D but I don't want to read it and be stuck with the shittier Pinecones I haven't read yet. So I keep putting it off until at least I've finished Vineland, Slow Learner, and Inherent Vice. The jury's still out on Against the Day as far as I'm concerned since almost no one here's actually read it.

It's kinda annoying seeing it praised so much.
