Ever since I started reading literature religiously, I've begun to hold myself to a higher esteem than many of my surrounding peers, especially towards the one's who don't read and only watch television. But, like, I even sort of feel this way to those who only read YA fiction and fantasy; so does reading canon literature just make you a pompous individual, or have I just given into the meme?

>I read a book, so I'm better than you

You might argue that you're more disciplined than people who only give into base entertainment, but that doesn't make you better, friend.

The fact that you think you're better means you're actually a worse human being tbh.

The way you worded this sounds just any young adult who just discovered something and feels like it's his own precious gold mine.

Protip: you are not cultured in any way, you can sound cultured amongst proles and uneducated people, but you'll always be a dilettante.

Even if you spend a few years on it, you'll sound great amongst amateurs and amateur amongst the great.
