I want more numbers that I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I can not tell you thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.

>August read from his worn composition notebook. "There is one spectacle grander than the sea, that is the sky; there is one spectacle grander than the sky, that is the interior of the soul." The sound of Hazel's heartbeat on the monitor steadied and she smiled in response to his calm voice.

>As I write this, my children are asleep in their room, Loretta Lynn is on the stereo, and my wife is out on a date with a man named Paulo. It’s her second date this week; her fourth this month so far. If it goes like the others, she’ll come home in the middle of the night, crawl into bed beside me, and tell me all about how she and Paulo had sex. I won’t explode with anger or seethe with resentment. I’ll tell her it’s a hot story and I’m glad she had fun. It’s hot because she’s excited, and I’m glad because I’m a feminist.

>They stared glared at one another. It was Shreve speaking, though save for the slight difference which the intervening degrees of latitude had inculcated in them (differences not in tone or pitch but of turns of phrase and usage of words), it might have been either of them and was in a sense both: both thinking as one, the voice which happened to be speaking the thought only the thinking become audible, vocal; the two of them creating between them, out of the rag-tag and bob-ends of old tales and talking, people who perhaps had never existed at all anywhere, who, shadows, were shadows not of flesh and blood which had lived and died but shadows in turn of what were (to one of them at least, to Shreve) shades too, quiet as the visible murmur of their vaporizing breath.

>That's always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they're pretty. It's like picking your breakfast cereals based on colour instead of taste.

>Do you think it matters how many people someone has slept with? No and it particularly bothers me that women are held to a different standard on this than men. Also, it's such a weird thing to care about. Like imagine if I started eating Cheerios for breakfast, would Cheerios be like, "I'm the 48th cereal you've tried eating?! I don't feel special!" Well then screw you, Cheerios. I can't go into the past and un-eat all those cereals, but that doesn't mean I don't genuinely enjoy your whole-grain crunch.

I love his women are comparable to cereal quotes.

>but that doesn't mean I don't genuinely enjoy your whole-grain crunch.

I wish I could deconstruct this sentence fully. It's him, the core of his being. It's the smarmy capstone to a ridiculous, pandering sentiment. It's designed to be funny and give the whole thing a light-hearted slant, to let you know that he's a guy who'll stand up for what's right, but underneath it all he's fun-loving and cool.

But the line itself isn't funny. It's goofy. It's slightly surprising in that it raises the "fun" factor of the entire paragraph but it's cringe-worthy as hell.

Basically it's the carefully constructed output of pandermachine 2.0, John Green, who doesn't realize how old and pathetic and nearing 40 he really is. Sorry John, but you don't know what teenagers are like anymore, and hanging out with all the people starring in your shitty movies is not helping one bit.

Hell, you probably didn't know what teenagers were like back when you WERE one. I've seen pictures of his retarded looking ass, him and his brother look like turbogeeks who probably thought asking a girl out involved showing up to her house with a bouquet of fucking flowers and chocolates.
