Why did Shakespeare use such retarded language?

No matter how you look at it, tone in his dialogue is a flaw. Every character speaks to one another in monologues. That's stupid.

Sometimes they drop out of it and talk like people. It sounds blissful every time, but solely by the merit of them being nugets of adequate speech among the disjointed siloliquies.

Because drama is not supposed to idealize life, not imitate it.

You ARE suppsoed to imitate human speech, though, unless you don't want your characters to talk.

You know, even in the most abstract of arts, music, imitating human speech is the main device. It is one thing you don't want to fuck up: natural rhythm of speech.

If you have a decent company putting on shakespeare, everything- monologues and all- sounds natural.

Shakespeare is meant to be seen, not read.

Well. But where is one supposed to find good productions? They seem to have stopped doing normal Shakespeare, like, a century a half ago. It's true I'm reading him and not watching, but fuck me if I know how I'm supposed to watch him. Going to the theatre sounds fucking stupid: it's BOUND to be mediocre stuff.

I prefer reading him, that way I can actually understand what the fuck they're jabbering about.

I wish plays could have closed captioning.
