What are your thoughts on Zizek?

Funny guy with a lot of insight into how capitalist culture and desire operates. I'd hang out with him.

I like him but it annoys me that he can't discuss anything at length without at some point trying to illustrate it with one out of his handful of endlessly regurgitated jokes
>in my home cahntry when I was a dissident we had this vulgar jokes about the big other that I claim is precisely how ideology fahnctions today

>and so on

Well, I'm reading "Violence: Six Sideways Reflections"; he talks about important things intelligently and it's delightful to read, so I think I like him, yeah

>> No.6858367

He needs some antihistamines.

>> No.6858370

He made me want an ice cold Coca-Cola.

yeah admittedly I haven't read his books but only listened to a whole bunch of lectures and seen a few films
I'm considering buying a few of his books though, have you read any before that one? could you recommend one to start with?
I might get these just because I'm a sucker for series, boxsets and such

>> No.6858564

I'm a STEM guy but I love listening to him because he has alot of interesting ideas. He's especially luminous in his film analyses.

>> No.6858581

He is pretty smart and makes some great points. I sometimes question them though because he makes some pretty big assumptions that are just going on intuition.

>> No.6858621

>>6858564
STEM gets a bad rep from all the dogmatic materialists and "new atheists" with no regard for metaphysical theory
math is love math is life

too vulgar for my liking but he is a marxist

Pretty regular, ideology-driven thoughts. I think I may not have consumed enough Zizek, or perhaps developed a natural tolerance from something else.

>> No.6858672

>>6858636
>ideology-driven thoughts
what do you mean by this?
I interpret it as an implication that he is doing something paradoxical, but I don't think critique of ideology is only possible from the outside, rather the opposite

>> No.6858683

zizek is a purely /lit/-troll phenomenon. Nobody outside of /lit/ talks about him, he has nothing worth talking about. His works and thoughts are based primarily on his emotions and feelings, which he holds in higher regard than any rational chains. There is no substance, as he prefers rambling incoherently to making any actual quantifiable statements!

So don't waste your health on him.

I think I would describe myself as a materialist and an Atheist but I think when it comes to matters of culture and human ideas, I think it can be very helpful to describe them in the terms that Zizek does.

Zero content. Name one real, non speculative bullshit thing he has said which is new or worthwhile
