What does /lit/ think of Watchmen?

I'm rereading it to see if it still holds up and, though it's far from being as good as it was when I was 14, I think it's paints nice portrait of the time it was published. Most of its characters are dull as fuck, Roscharch is the epitome of the teen angst character and the narrative itself is a little boring but I think it utilizes the comic strips medium to its full extent, the art is beautiful and it holds some legitimate value.

Do you consider it just YA/genre fiction shit or does it have any value as literature?

It has value as literature. And I think it's pretty unfair of you to dismiss Rorschach as a character the way you do.

As far as nihilistic personalities go, The Comedian is a much more interesting character than Roscharch. Some of his lines are plain cringe-worthy.

Can I ask instead where to go from here with Moore? Watchmen is a fascinating, if uneven, deconstruction of the concept of superheroes. I'm interested in what else he has to say.

I read it when I was 20. Didn't know anything about it beside the film. Really liked it, didn't think the characters were dull at all- and if they were it was intentional to compliment the bleak atmosphere.

Interestingly enough, I read that Moore wasn't down with it being turned into a film but would have been ok with it being turned into a TV series, something which nearly happened (Ridley Scott was going to direct it). THAT would have been straight fire.

Was Rorschach a deontologist?

Ellis' The Boys is a more effective deconstruction of contemporary superheroes

It's almost a therapeutic read after all the capeshit permeating today's entertainment

Harper Lee really should have left it unpublished.

>I don't unlike the character, therefore he is bad
But yes it has value as literature, though it is pretty low on the totem pole.
