Trying to become more of an avid reader, here. Primarily, to give my brain good fodder for pre-game sleeping at night.

GoT was all checked out at the library so I went with book pictured. I've read some of his stuff before, his stories have enough 'weird' in them, mixed with slightly less than superb writing that I can engage decently.

But, I'm 100 pages in and I'm not really getting anywhere. With fiction I think I need to be enveloped into an impending adventure or action early on with character development along the way otherwise I'm bored. E.g., like a Ready, Player One novel that is about to jump off. Any suggestions /lit/?

I'm sorry OP but CVS paperbacks will get little response here.

I would recommend entry-level pleb stuff.

Try Vonnegut, he is very, very easy to read and will hold your attention. Sirens if Titan or Slaughterhouse 5 is a good jumping-off point

I've read the book with Ice-9 in it. Also, I've read 1984 and animal house but missed the boat on reading them when I was 18 - know enough about how the world works and our propensity of oppression too not be very shocked.
