Is this something a newbie reader just finnishing up the ASOIF books want to pick up? I really want to get into reading.

Yeah. It's a short easy and read and will prepare you for bigger and more complex book assuming you slowly ascend the steps of /lit/'s book selections to attaining the literary life.

These are thrilling, accessible dramas, which are at the very foundation of the western literary canon.

If you don't feel ready to read anything beyond the last century, I recommend James Joyce's Dubliners.

It's a very light read. I may not have agreed with what the author was trying to say, but damn did he execute it beautifully. Probably should be read in a couple of days for the best effect.
