I use Darkroom for most writing. It's simple and basic.

Ommwriter if you're feeling especially hipster and want some zen with your writing. I've grown out of it but still have it.

Focus Writer to make super-custom themes with background images and all your system fonts, etc. Really nice if you're the type of person that likes to create a visual equivalent for your story. I like to use it when I write erotica.

Open Office to edit all these things because Word is for sheep.

tfw I've replied to this thread at least three times. Pic related.

Can someone offer me a legitimate reason as to why I should be bothered by whichever program I use? Just curious, because I find Notepad and Word to be sufficient if anything, maybe a little notebook I carry when I'm off adjourning in the park.

Some people don't like all the weight that Word carries (it's a very bloated program) and don't like the drab interface and abundance of buttons and options. Minimalist writers are comfy. It's kind of a fad, but there's some legitimacy to it.

Notepad is just fine.

Yeah, but you can't as swiftly make the interface, say, all black with green text. Or put a picture of a nekkid chick off to the side and line up the text crawl next to her. Etc.

Plus Word takes up a lot of unnecessary memory.

I really like Atlantis

It is kind of between Word and Notepad, it's pretty basic, it can be customized (I love neon green letters on black background) and it has a pretty rad intuitive predictive word option that is not intrusive at all.

It is all around the best word processor, imo

Easy torrents available as well

If you're using the Internet in the background (research, I swear) or if you are going to do something else on your computer when you're done writing, then it is an issue, because Word doesn't release your memory when it's done with it.

I repeat, Word takes up memory and then hogs it even when you're done with it. Not until you restart your computer is it released. Word is a bloated-ass program that can more quickly slow down computer session. Why the fuck does a word processor need to have RAM usage comparable to Photoshop? Because Microsoft has loaded the program with so many features for any type of conceivable use. Many of these features you'll never use. They are all pretty much useless for writers.

>>6796656
I'll have to check this one out, sounds neat. Though I am pretty happy with Darkroom.

I remember a while back seeing a program that took the immersion concept and ran with it, displaying your text in 3D-rendered letters that would zoom and float off the screen. Looked super-comfy to the max, but a little bit much. 2hipster4me.

Also, why did the naked Asian lady image get removed when there are several threads here already with similar OP images?

It's a very powerful application, which is the reason for using it to write paper for science, but if you use it for literature, you can create great books, which are more than just text.
