I agree. Otherwise, I really like stormlight archive so far. But Words of Dalliance aka Shallan's Sketchbook Chronicles had me wanting to just skip chapters after a while. It would be awesome if he'd do a book focusing on Jasnah. Way more interesting character, I agree.

He writes like a normal novelist and not a tryhard that attempts to inject as many subordinate clauses and adjectives into every sentence as is possible.

Also, he has this wonderful habit of giving short reviews of things through character dialogues so that paging through a doorstop fantasy novel over months doesn't get you lost.

4505 years after the Last Desolation, King Gavilar Kholin is dead, murdered by an assassin sent by the inhuman Parshendi, and his son Elhokar is a weak ruler. His brother Dalinar, a general more at home on the battlefield strives to hold Gavilar's ten Alethi princedoms together as their Highprinces bicker. He brings the Highprinces and their armies to the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi homeland, seeking vengeance. On top of this, Gavilar's widow is openly displaying interest in him, and he has had his memories of his dead wife removed by magical means.

Kaladin, a surgeon turned soldier turned slave and branded for treason, runs portable bridges across the chasms of the Shattered Plains for Highprince Sadeas's armies. He dreams of escape from his bondage and the life he once had as he listens to the cries of the dying.

An ocean away, in Kharbranth, City of Bells, Dalinar's niece, heretic Jasnah Kholin, has begun research on the Voidbringers, creatures that accompany the Desolations in Vorin Mythology. She possesses a sacred Vorin artifact- one that devout Vorin Shallan Davar intends to steal.

Degree of attraction to the opposite gender: Shallan is really fucking gay. Of course, Kaladin spends his time shirtless with Moash, who clearly wants his dick, and barely speaks to women. Tie.

Inability to adequately deal with one's problems: Shallan is shit at dealing with her problems. She just acts like she's forgotten them, except for the time she stabbed Tyn. Kaladin suffers through and rises above severe depression- only to be a massive fucking idiot in WoR. Let's call it even.

"Talenel" showing up, Amaram getting BTFO, finding out about Taravangian and Dalinar in combat against Szeth were all really great. Jasnah just killing those thugs gave me shivers. You know, she's sitting in the bath just kind of flirting with Shallan and then she goes out of her way just to fuck with Shallan's head and teach her a lesson and get rid of a valid threat to the city. And then afterwards she doesn't use her fabrial because she already upset her enough, she doesn't want to make the poor girl feel any worse than she has to.

Ohhh gotcha. Yeah it's basically based upon verbalizing a certain ideal. It doesn't have to be an /exact/ word-for-word ideal uttered by every single person but as long as it is spoken properly then it'll get the 'point' across. Although first Ideal is the same for all Knights Radiant and it begins to differ after the Second Ideal. I remember reading about this from a Q&A thing a while back but I believe that was the gist.

I'll check this link out. Thanks. I've still gotta read through his big recent Q&A on Reddit. I'm behind on new stuff by at least four or five months. It takes so much time to keep track of everything.

Nightblood consumes Investiture. Breath is the Nalthian form of Investiture and Stormlight is one form of Rosharan Investiture. Hemarlurgy stealing Shardblades is interesting. Didn't know that but doesn't surprise me. I feel like Hermalurgy is the 'science' approach as opposed to the 'magic' of every other magic system involved. I don't see why Shai would ever be on Roshar unless she somehow becomes involved with the Seventeenth Shard.

>>6773085
>Yo niggas we gotta go back
I don't know why I laughed.

Lift's Surgebinding of Abrasion isn't related to her ability to metabolize Stormlight. That ability is actually a Boon from the Nightwatcher.

Yeah. Alright: Realmatics Time!

Surgebinders have to be broken/traumatized in order to bond a spren. Spren fit into cracks in the soul- the Oaths limit the spren because Ishar needed something to make Surgebinders act honorably and stop them from wrecking shit.

Hemalurgy works by connecting the Physical and Spiritual Realms. You spike somebody and take a piece of soul encoded with the ability to access magic.

Dead Shardblade bonds are fucked up Nahel bonds. You're forcing the spren into Physical reality; the ability to do this is encoded on your soul.

So: if you know the proper bind points, you can steal a dead shardblade. Plugging a live spren directly into yourself (by hemalurgy or bond) is what Ishar's Oaths are designed to prevent.
