Going on vacation in a week, and I will need books to read for the plane and the beach. I want some stuff that's really good, but not overwhelmingly intellectual, I just want to relax and enjoy myself. A book series could work too. any halp?

Both those statements just go to show how equivocal the influence of religious piety is on morality. Christians aren't especially virtuous and atheists aren't especially wicked. Religion can't change basic human nature IMO.

Not really, this boils down a lot deeper.

There was not only opposition against the nazi regime from the far-left, but also from conservatives, who felt betrayed.

It is true however that conservative christians were killed for being conservative christians that oppose the regime.

Some churches were havens for people to fall back on and talk without being monitord, much like in the GDR.
