I graduated magna cum laude from a top 20 university. The only places that will call me back are dishwashing gigs, which was what I did for a couple of years full time before going to university. I spent tens of thousands of dollars to get absolutely nowhere in life. Do not study the humanities, or at least English.

its obvious this situation is incredibly wrong. there are no jobs anymore. no reform based on giving people more "skills" is going to help, labor simply isn't needed and there aren't enough jobs for people who need to work. if a person who has signaled a high level of intelligence and ability to accomplish something at a reasonably impressive level can't easy find a middle class job then the idea of an economy where people support themselves by finding jobs is just done.

Oh I work full time, but there's no reason that everyone should have to work full time. So many people are unemployable, and there are enough resources to take care of them with dignity, so what's the point? Social safety nets are horribly inadequate in this country, and if anything, they discourage people from working because of how limiting they are.

I don't think I could be considered a communist though. I think that the decoupling of labor from income is a good thing. Human labor is cheap, and that's good. Restructure the economy so we can reap the benefits of automation. There's no reason most people should be expected to toil away 40 hours a week if they don't want to.

That's cute. A good social safety net is vital to a stable economy. Illegal immigration is not a threat to our economy. Corporate corruption is a problem, but that's how capitalism works. You can't decouple that without regulations and safety nets. Taxes are a good thing; they're a part of a fair and beneficial social contract that benefits everyone.

If you want to get rid of taxes, go live off the grid in the woods somewhere and don't bother your fellow citizens.

I said income taxes. I don't have a problem with reasonable excise taxes. Also, legal immigration is maybe a bigger problem than illegal. And a social net is NOT needed for any but the truly physically incapable, but that can be funded out of charitable intent and the control taken away from government, then the efficiency will be vastly improved. Corporate cronyism is not the free market, it's fancier fuedalism, socialism in practice being just a cruder example of the same totalitarian oligopoly.

>> No.6734181

Degrees, in general, are fairly meaningless. There's plenty of people who have degrees, but don't know a damn thing about whatever their degree is in.

A degree might get you in a door, but an employer is going to want to know what you actually know. I know tons of people i went to college with who can't get jobs, no surprise, they were the ones who half assed everything, did as little as they could to get by.

Employers aren't stupid, they know there's plenty of these kids and they try to weed them out.

As for english major, what kind of job are you trying to get into? I really hope you didn't think that getting an english major would magically make you a great writer, editor, or whatever. My english majors don't like to hear it, but you have to have some innate talent to be a writer, or anything creative in general. Studying it can help focus it, but if you don't have it in the first place you're wasting your time. Hell, I had profesors who were awful writers, that's why the became professors.

So I had a 40k starting job and I pretty much just showed up and didn't slack off and eventually they assume you're ready for a promotion and you just keep doing that until you hit like 70k then you either show some initiative/ingenuity and keep going or you just rest on 70k and be a chill nigger.
