Alright, so I'm about 80 pages into the fourth book of the meme trilogy and I have to ask-
Why is there no detailed fucking?

The whole thing is about drugs anyway, it's very listless and existential and hedonistic. It seems like sex would fit perfectly, and would break up the monotony of drugs and more drugs.

You can argue that the main character not having sex emphasizes his lack of contact with things that matter in his life, yes. But it could be done in a way that is still awkward, sad, entertaining and meaningless. Just like the rest of the book.

I don't know if Tao Lin is good, but if he's a serious writer than there's a very good reason he won't describe detailed fucking: it's been done and overdone.

Sex shouldn't even be a subject of literary exploration anymore. Our culture is oversexualized to the extreme.

I noticed this and I found it very refreshing
when I read 'and then we had sex in the dark for an hour' rather than a detailed description I was so relieved
pretty much this, unless you had something very specific to discuss

Taipei was actually pretty good, surprisingly, and I have doubts if he can ever write something that good, or better, again
He seemed to be in a downward spiral for a while and now he's writing articles and publishing a shitty book for money, it seems

I know Tao Lin might very well be shit like Murakami - when you get a small section of writing it looks good, when you read the whole book you see how shallow it is. But I see what's wrong if that small piece of writing.
