What do you have to say about Hemmmingway?

I haven't even touched his work probably because of the bad rap he gets but am eventually going to get to that Old Fisherman story. Is he underrated? A YA author? Gimme the pape on Ernest guys.

He's a solid writer. He's full of shit and doesn't stand up to the meme trilogy, but his work is quick and easy to digest. There's no harm in reading it and he's enjoyable

I recommend reading his stories. Especially the ones in the original In Our Time. And especially Big Two-Hearted River.

He's great. Some people hate him because he's well known and his writing is "entry level" in terms of difficulty but that doesn't make him any less great.

Underrated on /lit/. Overrated elsewhere.

Explain?

Is he better than Bukowski?

Depends on if you enjoy themes of masculine pride and pain. His style is unique but there's definitely better as far as expressing emotion.

well I liked Mishima

For Whom The Bell Tolls is a masterpiece. You'd probably have to be a bit of a history buff to fully appreciate it though.

serious mommy/daddy issues

propagated narrow, closeted view of men and women

wrote emphatically for tenor and emotional reaction, journalistic prose, no flowers allowed

would likely not read again

You don't understand Hemmingway at all.
