I think I'm madly in love with a woman, but I'm not sure how to approach the dilemma. First of all, she reads an awful lot of very good books, but when I asked her why she liked literature, she said, "Oh, women are just gossipmongers, stories are just fictional gossip for us" and when I asked then why she reads philosophy she said, "Just to seem smart, really. Eating, fucking and dying are all going to go the same way". But she's really smart once I get her talking about a book or philosophy and I can tell they really matter to her, but she says they don't. She's also a real asshole to pretty much everyone but me. We've been friends since childhood and she confides everything with me, but she basically uses the shit out of men and manipulates people left and right, but only tells me about it because she trusts me, and she thinks it's funny as hell to hurt people. But she's done a lot for me, she gets me sex with different women through all sorts of ways, and basically through shilling, and when I was out of work she paid for everything for me and gave me a place to say for over a month,

I started falling in love with her a while back when I was over at her house and she randomly sat on my lap and said, "You know, I really do appreciate that you care about me despite what kind of a person I am." Then she stood up and I got an erection almost as soon as she did but she wasn't looking. We had sat on each other's laps like that since we were kids, but for some reason it didn't turn me on until then.

I know deep down she's passionate about literature and philosophy, and I think that's a way to reach her and maybe set up a relationship with her. I just don't know how to go about that without screwing up and becoming another one of her victims, because I know from her confiding in me that she enjoys hurting men who fall in love with her. I'm really at a loss here.

Just be honest with her about how you feel.

If you don't have the guts for that then try to hang out 1-on-1 more with her in romantic type situations, ask her to go to the beach/nature whatever, bring some wine, complement her, be nice, etc until you end up kissing.

Honesty works too though, if they is a chance of something happening she will either say she likes you back or that she is open to exploring that with more time.
