This may seem like a stupid question, but in which way do you like to read?

Are you a coffee bar kinda reader? Do you only like to read on the commute (bus/train) to work? Do you prefer to simply read in bed, before you go to sleep? Out in the sun, in your garden?

Mostly I love to read in my bed. I find it hard to read at any other time, because I am easily distracted by friends, computer (fucking 4chan), assignments, and such...

Do you also have any reading rituals? For example, I simply HAVE to have a nice cup of tea/warm milk, whilst I read my books.

inb4 insulting names are thrown in my direction that make implications about my sexual orientation

>> No.666913

I can't read with people watching me.
That's my only condition, really.

>> No.666919

I read on the bus, if I've got time to kill between classes(and no schoolwork), at home when I've got a little free time, and sometimes outside.

I used to read right before going to bed, but I don't anymore.

No rituals to speak of.

>> No.666922

It depends on how absorbed I am in the book. "Catch-22" read me reading in class, on the bus, and even fighting the urge to read while driving.
"The Wind-up Bird Chronicle" forced me to sit in my chair at home in order to stay focused. Jesus christ that book wanders around.

>>666907

First of all I don't think /lit/ would question your sexual orientation, it is /lit/ after all...We welcome everybody.

Second, I prefer to make espresso with my french press and dim my lights. I turn on a desk lamp and listen to www.rainymood.com and smooth jazz. Then I read.

I spend most of my time reading in a comfy sofa with my dog or in a desk to perform my said ritual.

>Are you a coffee bar kinda reader?

Yes

>Do you ... like to read on the commute (bus/train) to work?

Yes

>Do you ... simply read in bed, before you go to sleep?

Yes, and also as I wake up.

>Out in the sun, in your garden?

Not the sun. I stay away from the sun.

>> No.666936

I like to read qasi-recumbent on a couch with a cup of tea (the couch has a straight, wooden arm). That's the ideal setting. I'll also read on the bus, in class, and outside while I'm eating lunch. With summer approaching, I'm going to try to take my book and my tea out into the sunlight more.

You see, I never understood this. When I read I spend a good 3-4 hours reading. I just can't see myself spending that much time at a coffee bar. I'd order a drink, finish it in 20 minutes and then what? Do I have to keep ordering drinks? Do they give me the evil eye for three hours?

Just makes more sense to do it from home.

I nearly have to read something before going to sleep. Reading help me to be in a "sleeping state of mind". Even complitly drunk I often read about 10 min before sleeping.

I often try to read in bed, but 4 - 5 pages into it, the relaxed position just gets me, and i fall asleep.

Really depends.
Nausea was a great cafe book, hunch over on a table and read with a steaming cup of tea in one hand and the book in the other. Awesome.

But usually I just curl up in a ball and read. During the point in time where I read the dune series, I would make myself a self-enclosed couch fortress and live in "dune" (Awesome part was that it was all sand-coloured as well).

Earlier than that, I recall reading young-kid survival books while hungry. It made the text seem like a life-and-death struggle

It's normal for me to read in my bed.

Typically I don't take a book with me when I leave the house unless I know I'm going to be sitting around for a while(road trip, doctor visit, what have you), in which case I'll read anywhere I'm sufficiently bored. Some people tell me they get sick reading in cars, but I never had such a problem.

I used to read all the time in school. In every class. Apparently it made me one of the more memorable students, since having to tell me to put down my book every five minutes lodged itself in their collective memories.

>> No.669339

The best is outside in the sun. Bird noise is the best background. The feeling of the sun warming up your skin is like nothing else. Reading two or three pages and then looking around at the vivid green grass or clear blue sky. These conditions and a good book are when I am most content.

For reading in bed, I put one pillow horizontal, one vertical, and half sit/half lay against them. Then I listen to music that suits the book. Right now Shostakovich with The Master and Margarita, for the frenzied dreaminess of it.

>> No.669373
