I'm back, /lit/, and now that I'm out of college for the semester I've put my free time to expanding the previous archive of books. It's now at 3700 and the entire archive is about 2GB. I've also sorted every book into subfolders by author and by series, and got rid of a few password-locked and dead archives that I'd overlooked.

But wat do with the previous lot?
If I download this over the top of the other one and click "skip all" when it says "X already exists", will that update it without problems like duplicates and such?

>> No.666437

>>666417
No, because this archive is all sorted into subfolders. You're probably best off just deleting the old one entirely, since this one contains all of the old one (minus ones that didn't work) as well as a thousand new ones, re-sorted.

This might be easier than you think: Sort the folder by the date the file was added. Any file added after the date you extracted the archive will go to the top or bottom. Keep those, nuke the rest, profit.

Imagine that .rar-file is a box, and the books are inside. To open the box, you need a program that can do it. 7-Zip is a good and free program, but if you have WinZip, it'll do just as fine.

I have a Sony 505. I love the absolute crap out of the thing.

I love the fact that you can just hook it up and it shows as a removable drive. I feared Sony might pull something like you used to see with early MP3 players, where only special software let you transfer files. Luckily they did it right.

It's also fairly bulletproof, so far. I've spilled coffee on the poor thing, dropped it from waist height a few times, rolled over on to it after falling asleep...

If you're looking for an e-reader and can find one, I'd recommend it highly.

Totally with this guy. Been meaning to get one for awhile, this makes it worth it. You guys recommend a Kindle?

>> No.712065

Kindle was too expensive and had too many features for me. The PRS-505 is an ebook reader. It reads ebooks. No more, no less. Since I carry a laptop and a smartphone daily, I didn't need nor did I want to pay for any extravagant features that would just be redundant.

So the kindle was a bad buy for me, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad. Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

>> No.712074

Actually, neglected to mention it also plays audiobooks. Don't think it has speakers but I'd prefer my noise-cancelling headphones even if it did.

Hmm, I can see why you went with the sony then, I guess. I don't have a smartphone or a laptop, but I really don't need that many features either. What I'm really looking for is one that at least lets you make notes in it, you know of any that can do that?

Also, is there a way to quickly extract all the jpg-rars in a folder? It's a pain going through one by one.

>> No.712185

kindle2 user here and also posting this from my kindle. To take notes or save lines or passages with kindle you just highlight the text you want and click. It saves it into a clippings file that you can reference on the kindle or manage via usb. For books you get elsewhere you can email them to your kindle for like 10 cents and automatic conversion and formatting or convert the text yourself and add via usb. The newest software update is going to allow even better zooming for pdf files too. Kindle is far more capable than u all ever give it credit for.
