Seems like /lit/'s got a real thorn in its balls over A Song of Ice and Fire and George RR Martin as a writer. What gives?

didn't they tell you on r/books that we are super duper snobs?

Not a fan of the reddit hivemind, so fuck that noise. I'm just genuinely curious.

Because /lit/ views genre fiction, especially fantasy, as shit for plebs. Zizek's long lost twin brother just happens to be the most popular author of those things at the moment.

yes you are or you would've known that no one is really (seriously) talking about him these days.

Actually, I think the ratio of people who like vs people who hate ASOIAF here is maybe 1:1, but the ones who don't like it are much louder.

Let's see... http://strawpoll.me/4524768

There were two threads bashing GRRM at the time I posted this.

>> No.6629559

not as big of an audience for genre stuff here, and plenty of people love to shit on it because it's easy to do

plus it's popular

plus people from /tv/ and elsewhere come here to make threads about it all the time

plus plenty of examples of poor prose and dialogue, it seems to work much better on the screen

No one on /lit/or no one IRL? Because if the latter then hordes of fuckers are talking about GOT out there.

>>6629487

Before the TV show threads here about ASOIAF were pretty ambivalent, the only serious trolling was someone posting R+L=J, but all this hate really comes from the secondaries that the TV show has brought with it who think it's hilarious to troll this place with "The more she drank; the more she shat,etc.". Essentially it is the TV show's fault.

/lit/ is full of failed writers and unemployed phylosophy grads.

They are mad that GRRM wrote shit that actually gets published.

>> No.6629946

The guy can't write for shit but the world of his books is pretty interesting and fun to read about on its own.

I don´t think he is a bad writer, but I read the first book and simply didn´t care for the plot. The prose it´s good considering it´s mainstream literature, though I prefer to use my time catching up to classics I havent read.

I'm getting lit ja vu. You've said that before.

>> No.6630120

I like ASOIAF, and I would like its author if he wasn't a supreme douchelord with a shitty work ethic that just screams he's a hippie with a sense of entitlement.

Loads of people talk about fifty shades. Irrelevant.

We all got emotionally invested in his work and he's too old and fat to write moar books.
