The problem most of /lit/ has with this kind of mindset is that it's only further dividing the public and the community as a whole. Perhaps I should only speak to myself, but the type of problem which persists with this white guilt mindset is that it creates a rift in the literate public which shouldn't exist. Most of /lit/ doesn't give a fuck if a work of literature is written by a man, woman, Jew, fag, etc. etc. If it's a worthy piece of literature, it will stand on its own merits. Disregarding works of literature based on a writers gender, race, or 'privilege' is the type of prejudice that the SJW crowd claims to be fighting against. In other words, it's pure hypocrisy.

If a work of literature is good, it doesn't matter what color or gender or sexual orientation the writer is.

This is just wrong. The western canon is so abundant with genius and incidentally, literature takes effort, thus casting away the less educated.

Being sheltered from (not part of) yet aware of what goes on can be a good thing. For it is not the job of a writer to write grand events but to make small events grand. The former are entertainment and the latter are art.
Still, there is no cause of literary genius. Cervantes lost the use of an arm in combat, was a prisoner for five years in algiers, and spent 3 years in jail in Spain. Shakespeare had really nothing interesting happen in his life. They are both geniuses.
What is "insight into the human condition" from female and black writers? We are so oppressed? Maya Angelou and her type are godawful poets. Of course there is Ralph Ellison and Virginia Woolf and other examples, but they have similar insights to white males because race and gender has very little contact with the universal themes that literature addresses. The only thing the oppressed can write about better than the non-oppressed is about how oppressed they are. Is this the insight we are supposed to accept into the canon rather than Shakespeare?
