i am about to play a little bit of Stalker, but i don't see how this is relevant.

always just comes down to some debate about books vs games so i'll just get that out of the way with a preemptive strike. i think video games have enormous potential, i like the idea you can play god and exercise your inner desires (like when zizek talks about the avatar as rapist, murderer, etc as the true self).

for me it's similar to reading books, a solitary, reflective activity, i go into my own metaphysical head-space, and emerge with a new sense of being and identity and self-understanding. games are a bit paradoxical in that there's so much visual information being thrown at you, but the truly best immersive game is a "cold" game, in which you have to do most of the work in putting the experience together into an orientation that makes sense.

my biggest pet peeve is that they do require an immense amount of time, especially due to trivial things like loading, game deaths, grinding, bugs, crashes, tweaking, etc.

i'm probably just autistic though.
