What are some good Christian themed novels?

My favorites are Book of the New Sun and Consider the Lobster.

James Baldwin's Go Tell it on the Mountain is a brilliant book with heavy themes taken from Black Christian culture. It might not be what you're looking for though; it doesn't paint the religion in a very favourable light.

I prefer manga (Japanese for comic book).

Eastern religion is far superior. So don't waste your time on anything perpetuated by European themes that they stole from the East.

VALIS is such a good recommendation even though I never see it come back. It's almost explicitly a religious (and definitely is at the end) book, and very enjoyable too.

Shusaku Endo's "Silence" is another great novel, OP. I also enjoyed Graham Greene's "The Power and the Glory".

Christ the Lord- Out of Egypt by Anne Rice.

I also got a kick out of the Left Behind books, but I can't recommend anyone read them and still have a clean conscience. The Antichrist was the only good character in the whole thing.

Everyone tells me The Brothers Karamazov is Dostoyevsky's best novel, but I've never gotten around to reading it. Crime and Punishment really knocked me over and took me a while to emotionally recover from though, I dunno if I can handle that gamut of emotions again.
