We all know there are reasons to love literary fiction and the depth of human psychology hidden in the small everyday things and what not. But it's also fun as fuck to write pulpy genre adventures. Do you have any narrator heavy dirty noir hard-boiled thriller? Any mind consuming cosmic horror tale? Any story of drama and passion? Heroic adventures in an alien filled outer space? We'd love to spread that shit! Scandal Monthly is a small, entirely /lit/ oriented, wanna be zine destined to all those things you love to write but wouldn't try sending to a literary agent or showing your creative writing teacher.

While this is barely a project so far and we're also interested in people who'd want to work as editors, designers, marketers, web designers, and so on; what we want to know is if you are interested in trusting us with your mind babies. If you have something prepared, or circling your head, or if you'd enjoy writing something particularly to get it in here. We'll be a bit demanding with the quality because being surrounded with shit isn't fun for anyone, but we'll do our best to not be assholes and work with you if you have something with potential.

Are you shy? You're ashamed of /lit/ knowing you actually care about things? Don't wanna look like a pleb in front of all this CP and rare pepe collectors? It's all cool, just write to us at ScandalMonthly@writeme.com

In the previous thread an interested anon asked about monetary prices, something TAR used to do. I'm sorry to say that we don't have such interests. If you feel your work is something you have to save for the day some editor finally pays attention to you that's awesome and we hope it happens soon, no ill will. But if you have a constant output of material, or want to experiment with some genre, or want to see if people will like your stuff before risking it in the real world; then we're here to make your dreams true.

I didn't know that there was a single try mechanic to zines or group projects, you better get working if you want everyone in the world to know.
Meanwhile we'll try to have some fun if you don't mind.

While we're open minded when it comes to topics and themes we're mainly interested in sharing pulpy adventures, things that aim to entertain, bewitch, captivate, thrill or charm the audience. We want to know by just reading it that the author had a great time writing it and that the reader will to.

If you have any particular doubts just send us a mail and we'll discuss finer details with you.

But /lit/ doesn't write. We know this.

Fact of the matter, you're recruiting from /lit/, which is a small pool in the first place. Secondly, you're trying to get them to write genre fiction, which /lit/ has a kneejerk reaction to hate. You're barking up the wrong tree, OP, you're trying to get the wrong material from people who don't really put out much in terms of material.

>> No.6422145

If someone rejects material just for the genre he can't be more of a pleb. Borges wrote genre, Carver wrote genre, Poe wrote genre. If they don't like it it's healthier for them to ignore it, but to dismiss it out of some imaginary superiority is just being infantile.
I trust enough people will write and show how fun it can be.

>>6422145
Why would you get a pro pay rate without qualifications? If you are being published in literary magazines just make a new thread, pretend you're not yourself, and viral market them.

/lit/ can do a better job. The moment we start outsourcing our own writing is the moment the board deserves to die.
Also, just because you don't like it doesn't mean every single user must hate it. That kind of thinking just makes the place more and more homogeneous until we have every single thread being the same.

>> No.6426522

Couple of questions.

Is pornography allowed?

What about erotica instead?

What about gore? Or - ahem - Gore?

Assuming you're still reading this, I'm not trying to be baitish. I understand you are looking for quality. Let's say, as the outer end of this scale, would you accept something like "The Delicate Prey" by Paul Bowles?

Not a copy/paste of his story, but something in that style.

And, for completeness, would you accept fan-fiction? Not an eight year old's clustersuche; but, something wacky, say, Gore Vidal and Graham Greene do a night on the town?

And how about poetry?

>porn/erotica
We haven't fully discussed this issue and at the end we'll judge in a case to case basis, but as a general rule of thumb the main interest is that it can be entertaining. Having or not erotic content isn't an issue, but if it's two pages just describing a fuck we'd probably ask you to submit something else. This doesn't mean that we expect any degree of delicacy, just that the plot should be interesting on its own.

>Gore
Again, if it's just a description of a busting ribcage we'll probably pass, but if it's part of an interesting story we don't have any problem with it.

>Fan Fiction
Being a short story it would be better if you just make the characters stand alone. If you want to reference something else its fine, but don't depend entirely on it.

Don't worry about sounding batish, most anons are just posting to say that /lit/ suck and that you won't write anything good. Most bait can be nicer to read than that.

what if your literary skills are a little on the lacking side, poetically speaking, but have some ramblings on themes of things.
I have some strange adventure ideas, that I think have a good balance between plausibility and total nonsense. Not like Kubrick level what the fuck is going on sort of stuff, just strange incidents of human decision making that lead to terrible outcomes. I'd like to make films because the literature isn't the same as cinema. I only think a lot of directors have gotten bored of making intricate movies and more funding is in wowing the audience and having some basic moral function.

Space and techno are interests of mine.

Part of the point of submitting your work to an amateur zine is getting some amateur editor to discuss your work with you. He'll ask you why you did something, question you if you chose the best way to express your idea, give you a chance to rethink what you were doing and improve on it with an outsider's perspective. That is, of course, in case it's not complete and utterly impossible to fix. Which happens to the best of us and just means you have to keep writing.

We all do, anon.

I want to do a story about these guys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL85cUbxIlc

they're inspired by zombie pop culture and spend their hobby times playing murder mockup with relatively well crafted swords. I think they'd make a great team of awkwardo's for some great non-drug related parody.

>something happens in the city
>they over react and misinterpret the problem
>the conspiracy seems legit enough to be real.

Just sit down and write. You can make 2000 words in less than two hours and you'll feel better just by getting there.

It might be trash, but fun trash.
Right now we have a 3000 word limit, down the line we might change the format or something but right now we doubt /lit/ will care for more than that (zwg had some awesome historically accurate military fiction that a lot of people ignored because it was just too long). If you think it would work as a small series or something we're cool with that.
In any case, see what comes up and write to us.
