Why does /lit/ hate existentialism?

I can't help but notice that it gets shit on here all the time, but its never quite defined why.

I wouldn't at all say that /lit/ hates existentialism, but I think some people see it as passé and done-to-death.

because you can kind of teach it to high school students. there's literally nothing wrong with it. it'd just seem unfashionable to be specializing in it or think it's exceptionally better than other movements due to its immense utility in the 20th century reaching its apex a long time ago

no reason it should be skipped

Because existentialism challenges religions like christianity and scientism.

There's literally nothing wrong with the content of the first video. (The other three aren't really relevant) She gives a decent INTRODUCTION to existentialism as promised and it seems useful in introducing the concept to people who would know nothing at all about it.

The bikini is irrelevant to the content of the video

A lot of simple existentialism as well as misinterpretations of existentialist thought gets circulated in middle and high school, so it can become tiresome or seem childish to hear over and over. It's usually people's introduction or the first philosophy they learn, so it's associated with a early time in ones life.
Existentialism has value, especially in relation to psychology and the budding study of neurophilosophy. I think branches of existentialism like nihilism are pretty childish and don't have a lot of value however.
Also not all of /lit/ dislikes it, there are some pretty unlearned people posting here.

teenagers use the term "existential crisis" as a sort of childish-depression+

Lit, ever so busy not reading anything, takes this as evidence that existentialism really just means childish-depression+

>> No.6411928

existence doesn't precede essence, not in anything more than a very limited sense. otherwise physics wouldn't work, which it obviously does

its basic and self-evident. if you had an existential crisis and stopped there, you've basically gone nowhere.

>The bikini is irrelevant to the content of the video

I'd say that the content is irrelevant to the bikini. She wants to be seen talking about existentialism, and since she's a girl this mean exhibiting her body. That's the point of the video.

it's babby's first philosophy, and its appropriation by pseudo-intellectual artists (this is an
existentialist' painting, or movie, etc..) causes some to sneer at it

also, the gloominess of some of its major exponents gives it sort of an adolescent connotation

They're all nihilists and existentialism (which is the next logical step) is an effort too exhausting for them.

Because most of /lit/ are basicly still children. Being under 25 and truly understanding existentialism doesn't go along, it's a matter of perspective. Lit is still in it's ideology driven state, thus we have comunists, scientismists (?) and fighting christians here.

This made me chuckle a little. Might be 'cause I only, reluctantly dropped mine at the late age of 22.

I think it's more of hating on the people who identify with the movement rather than the movement itself because by and large existentialism is baby's first philosophy.
