Matey, Luther was never imprisoned by Catholic Church or forces aligned with it. Pope also sent legates to deal with him in theological arguments in which he made clear that he saw Holy See as the Antichrist. After several failed interviews, the Church nonetheless chose to reform its policies in Council of Trent 28 years after Luther nailed his theses; a very fast council indeed, for ideologies created in French revolution were debated some eighty years later (1869-1870) in Vatican I.
