My dad was an actual book collector who made a decent living flipping cheap shit and the of course getting stuff you'd actually call rare. $3 for a pocketbook is shit. My love of reading came from the guy because there were always a dearth of books hanging around, and if I ever wanted a book he'd know how to get it for a quarter. He bring home one or two hundred books in paper bags that had cost him four or five dollars, because bag sales are where it's at for cheap books. You bragging about a moldy paperback got three dollars is actually pathetic, and I mean that.

I have to say I regularly despise these threads asking about purchases (I couldn't tell you why) but seeing these Penguin Classics warms my heart. After a period of dormancy lasting from 12 - 16 I got back into reading and I consumed editions like these when I could, spending pocket money (and then my wages) on editions like these out of a second-hand bookshop.
