Smirnoff one hunna isn't bad, OP. I like it for screwdrivers and greyhounds and bloody maries because it doesn't dilute the drink as much as normal vodka. It's smooth and does the job.

For neat drinking I prefer Russian Standard to anything else though.

absinthe is supposed to be taken in sugar water
Whiskey is better with a splash of water
etc.
drinkers have been agreeing on these methods for hundreds of years
just because somebody doesnt chug from the bottle doesn't mean they'd rather be drinking a smirnoff ice

>> No.6386579

>>6386406
Sugar is debatable, I often dismiss it myself, but you need some water to bring the flavours out. Kind of like single malts, but you need more water in the case of absinthe. Absinthe is made to be drunk diluted. When you drink it straight you don't really do it justice. Otherwise it's like eating bouillon cubes instead of eating soup.

Not who you were responding to but I am who you were originally responding to. Absinthe drunk neat literally has less flavour because it needs the water to open up the oils. And the alcohol burn masks even more. It's a waste of absinthe to drink it neat.

>> No.6386784

>>6386648
It's not about the burn hurting, it's about the burn inhibiting the flavour of a good absinthe. I'll gladly burn when I'm drinking Albanian moonshine or something, but when you spend thirty to eighty bucks on a bottle of decent absinthe I'd expect you'd want to experience the flavour that the distillers try to put into it.

Supposedly, you don't drink absinthe merely to get drunk. There are cheaper methods for that that are just as efficient.

Canadian Hunter
Evan Williams
Famous Grouse Scotch
Seagrams Gin
Espolon Tequila if you can find it (Jose Cuervo tradicional if you can't, tequila's tough).

Absinthe is try-hard tier.
Big name stuff like Jim Beam and Jack Daniels and Crown Royal are wastes.

If I have the money, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, or Woodford's Reserve is as good as it gets.
