Not until there's a legitimate
> Whats the Fart Letters of videogames?

Despite every moderately ambitions project declaring itself the Citizen Kane of vidya (six months prior to the release date, no less), there has yet to be a game recognized as such.

Games will be "art" when they start delving in to their own nature and dealing with that successfully. There's currently too much of an obsession with trying to be some other medium, particularly film.

>> No.6372030

I don't think they will surpass books until you can hook your nervous system in and feel the games.

Never played MGS, but I'm sort of familiar with Kojima's other games. He at least employs movie-like elements well and owns up to, unlike other developers who insist on making their games like a movie.

>> No.6372081

>>6372022
That's one of the crucial elements, yes. It will be a nice day to see games capable of satirical self-correction, at the very least -- that might be the first step to achieving serious self-reflection.

Also critical to their development into an "art" form is to buck some of the capitalist influences behind the creative process. Much like television, which has largely failed to achieve true beauty in the Aristotelian sense due to networks deciding both what gets made and when it ends, the game industry will constantly and actively stifle idiosyncratic developments until they prove to be profitable.
