Back in the day, irony meant concealed superiority.

The word has come a long way since then. It's pretty ironic.

The term irony is so watered-down in modern usage that it has become almost meaningless. It sucks because there is no substitute for it in the English language and when something is genuinely ironic, I want to be able to declare it as such.

I blame Alanis Morissette and hipsters for ruining this perfectly good word.
