Well, shit. Let's see if I can drum up some foreign films that aren't too popular.

Well, Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War (2004)

Um...Švankmajer and Kurosawa are too mainstream. Ugh, so is Oldboy (2003), which used to be my favorite movie back BEFORE people knew it existed.

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) and Metropolis (1927).

NOT M (1931) which is too known to even stomach. Um, OP's picture, I guess, whatever.

Caché (2005)

There's a lot more, I just don't want them to gain a following.

Marketa Lazarova is rather literary in its pacing, probably influenced by the novel, being segmented into chapters with intertitles at the beginning giving a simple discription of what takes place, and it would be difficult to follow without them.

>Spring Breakers a /lit/ movie too?
Looks like somebody didn't get one of the best movies of recent years. (Spoiler: Yes. Yes it is.)

This.

What does /lit/ think of Cronenberg?

Haha, I mean, it's a mood piece about hedonism just like daisies, there isn't some grand purpose to get.

I actually liked it quite a lot for what it is but we're supposed to be talking about "/lit/ movies" here. I'm not sure tonal experiments should count. If they do, we're really just posting interesting films which is really going to open the door to what can be posted.

I think you're giving Korine a little too much credit. I own spring breakers and have listened to the commentary. I don't think he's a genius, he's just experimenting with what the format can express which seems to me solidly insular and rather unrelated to /lit/.

He's alright. Sort of interesting stuff but not really exceptional... His career clearly peaked with Videodrome.

Just saw it. Dreamy nice, while Ivan's Childhood was dreamy sad.

Must be either foreign, visually beautiful, innovative, clever, experimental or philosophical.

There's obviously no real definition and the thread is an excuse to discuss Film here which is fine. The whole /lit/ related thing is a funny necessity so that to the mods it appears at least marginally related.

I was thinking mostly that it would be something that shares scope and subject matter to potential literature.

Oh, um.. There have been books written on dada, or somthin'
Really, it's just a damn good film. Fun, yet thoughtful.

OP only says "/lit/-approved"
