This only annoys me when the description becomes so in depth that by the time I finish reading the description, I forget the beginning of the description. Russian authors are guilty of this; It doesn't make me put the book down though, I'll sometimes just read and re-read the description until I have almost memorized it; it slows down my reading immensely, but satiates my autism.

As bad as describing the appearances of people. I probably don't need to know how many walls and pillars are in there if we're not spending more than a minute there.

>> No.6352780

Agreed. Where did people get the idea that unnecessarily descriptive prose constituted good writing? Are these the same people who use purple prose because they want to come of as more intelligent than they actually are?

I actually love these descriptions. If I'm not familiar with the area being described I often look for photos of it and research its history a bit. Having a developed sense of place in your mind when reading a novel makes the experience so much more enjoyable.

Perhaps even better is in Japanese novels when birds are described.

I'm not /pol/, but what you just described sounds like the ultimate American experience. If you don't get divorced at least once in your life and then remarry, you're hardly an American.

You'd like J R. If you can read it. I didn't find it that hard. He's good a differentiating voices and giving you clues who is in a room. I haven't read the recognitions (amazon finally has copies again though, it looks like) yet but J R is directly about capitalism and america

Carpenter's Gothic is mostly unattributed dialogue but there are only two characters at a time for the most part. Agapē Agape is a 100 page long paragraph and it was actually "written" by a character in J R.
