I feel as though I ought not dismiss Christianity entirely considering the fact that it has been so important for so many artists, philosophers and societies throughout history. As an Atheist, an Egoist and somebody who rejects Christianity's 'Slave Morality' can Christanity still be useful to me?

Like everything else, you just take the good parts and reject the rest.

Christianity has some positive elements.

Roughly, I would say that biblical morality consists of three things:

1. A generally socialist ethos of charity and helping the poor.

2. A kind of socially conservative outlook on non-economic issues; a generally puritanical streak with regard to sex and sexual orientation, some vague racism in places, a militaristic outlook in the old testament.

3. A 'progressive' view of history that argues time is not exclusively cyclical but that we're moving in a clear line towards a better future.

My own thinking generally retains elements 1 and 3 but totally rejects 2.

The disciples assumed that the "end days" would be happening ASAP, probably within at most a few years of the ascension, and thus didn't have any need to write the things down. You start with Plato and Aristotle, and then trace the marriage of Biblical and Greek thought that is the foundation lf western culture. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
- Acts 14:2

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
- Acts 13:45

12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

14 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

15 But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

You can Love your neighbor, be kind, have mercy, be gracious and thankful. You can show compassion to those who spite you, and be humble in your accomplishments. You can be gentle to the earth, and be a good steward of the land. you can trust that you are only as in control as others think they control you, and that all things work for the good in the end, even if you cant see it. You can have faith in yourself, and in others, that in turn may have faith in you. You can give to those that need, and trust that all your needs will be met, even if its not what you expect. You can overcome any and all troubles standing upright, even if burdens hold you down. And you can lean on the shoulder of another when the weight is too great to stand on your own. You can Cast aside all worry and have no doubt or concern, and trust that even when you sit still in silence all things will happen according to your own will, even if you dont act. And you can act in good conscience without doubt when you must. You can always do good things when they need to be done, and know that when you do what is right, you can do no wrong; Doing unto others what you would have done to yourself.

Christianity is more than a word in a dictionary, its a way of life. It is the Love of Jesus Christ. It is and always will be of use to you, and everyone.

Reading a book like "Mere Christianity" would make just about anyone abandon all interest in religion. Lewis was a joke even within the piss-poor field of apologetics. Replace him with Anscombe. She was at least an actual philosopher and really quite a brilliant Aristotelian, despite being a Catholic fundamentalist fanatic.
