He's a shitlord who doesn't include strong independent womyn in his work and promotes problematic notions of toxic masculinity!

Nothing. Enjoy reading him (unless you don't like the book).

He writes the same book all the time and of course, he is popular

It's a good book tho.

The central problems in his novels are amorphous with no obvious solution. Each work/character tries to get at the same sense of identity and belonging, but no attempt fully quashes the senses of alienation and ennui.

typical shit critisize.

indulgent fantasy, same book, bad endings.

I'm about to read my first book from him to see if its true, I guess i will have to read two.

his books aren't supposed to have resolutions. typically his characters don't find solutions to their problems but rather have to learn to live with these unresolved issues. that's pretty realistic and practical. I think this is a big part of his appeal. that and the ray carver-like accessibility of his writing and themes of isolation in modern society. and the chandler'esque detective story vibe isn't bad either.

I'm currently reading Kafka On The Shore and I really like it, first book in a while that I genuinely enjoy reading and don't want to put down. The right level between complexity and accessibility, for me at least. Have previously read Norwegian Wood and that was pretty good too.

Then again, I'm by no means patrician and might even be pleb by /lit/ standards, so the possibility remains that Murakami might actually be really shit.

>I'm by no means patrician and might even be pleb by /lit/ standards

look anon. here is the universal standard for real life.

cares what /lit/ thinks=pleb

reads whatever you want for whatever reason you want regardless of what /lit/ thinks=patrician

don't forget this.

This is the most sane thing I've ever seen anyone say on /lit/.

Well done.

The only thing he wrote that I've liked was the Super Frog Saves Tokyo chapter in After The Quake.

Otherwise he's kind of forgettable.
