/lit/... When do you think the peak of Humanity was? (or will be, if you don't think it has occured yet).

Because it sure doesn't seem like people are getting any smarter, or culture any better.

Personally, I think it was sometime deep in the past, because I can't think of any modern times they were distinctly worthy of the title of Humanity's Climax.

This is the mindset of every thinker in every time period.

I feel like time periods are like mathematical manifolds.
i.e. they are locally similar.

scientifically and in terms of technology, we had the biggest boom of innovation during WW2/Cold War.

the biggest Society and Intelligence boom was either the Renaissance or Enlightenment period.

Italian Renaissance. Peak of humanity was in Italy for about 50 years, and then the Enlightenment fucked everything up.

Actually, people as a whole are smarter than they have ever been. The mere fact that nearly everyone knows how to read makes that obvious.

There has never been a better time to be alive than right now. The average person is wealthier, smarter, and has far more freedom now than at any other point in history.

The Renaissance and Enlightenment were great if you were rich. Otherwise, it was hardly better than the Middle Ages during those eras.
