What's your opinion on "humorous" books /lit/?

I'm talking Broom of the System, Confederacy of Dunces, writing where observation focuses on the humorous aspect of the story instead of the "profound", subtle or emotional side?

I've already written a depressing novella and it felt tryhard or insincere in its focus on melancholy, and I'm trying my hand at a story which although realistic in the sense that the action adheres to physical laws, it's also humorous in a sort of exagerrated sense.

I don't have a problem with funny books to a degree. But after a while it gets old. That was my problem with A Frolic of His Own by Gaddis. It's absolutely hilarious, but it's 800 pages of hilarity, and nothing else (although the play gets boring). I think there were only 2 or 3 moments in that book that gave me feels. I have the rest of his novels and get wait to get into them, but I really hope they're not the exact same thing.

Also that pic made me lol. Thanks OP.

The reason he did it was because there's a bunch of screencaps of similar situations where random black people describe someone else's baby in funny black vernacular. But that's the thing, they always do it to random people, never someone they personally know otherwise shit like OP's pic happens

I think humour and comedy are the highest forms of art. It makes you feel good (which is the best way to feel), and it's purely a product of intelligence. I have much more respect for a writer who's going to try and make you laugh rather than sell you some second hand emotions or pummel you with some half baked sermon.

That said, humour alone isn't enough to carry a story.
