I'm sorry, does the fact that these authors have works that are popular detract from everything else they've written? It seems to me the people who throw around the meme that these authors are for teenagers are exactly the people who have developed a superficial look at what they've written and then judge it as literature for immature people. Give their other stuff a read before you come to conclusions. Or at least read beyond what you've heard on Sparknotes.

You will also not admit to this, because your own inability to see past your materialist dogmas keeps you from seeing that they are in fact dogmas and need to be questioned as much as any religion. There are a lot of things you'll say you "like" but you don't really do them, you think about them. For example, you might "like" wrestling, but you only watch a few matches and spend most of your time reading summaries or commentary and having arguments on the internet.

You may also exhibit this in reverse: you spend extended periods of time half-doing, and reading about things you don't even "like," which you may actively hate, in order to have conversations about, because the thing so well embodies a failure to conform to your philosophies. For example, reading "50 Shades of Gray" or even just talking about "50 Shades of Gray" to show how bad it is.
