Other than that I think one of the main things is to understand different people fetishes and turn ons. Know the psychology behind it. Know it more than the people who are reading your shit and take them deeper than their own mind has dared.

The act itself is never as erotic as the thought of the act. You should be constantly rising tension, never fully seeing the situation to its conclusion. End the story with an "open ending", a non-conclusion that doesn't much resolve the tension. For instance, take your fetish as cuckolding. What is erotic about the wife becoming overtly in love with the other man/ addicted to his penis/whatever other stereotypical terrible storyline? That's not hot. What's hot is the suspicion of the act. The nagging thoughts, the jealous thoughts. The process, drawn out as much as possible while keeping tension high, is what produces arousal. This is also good advice. The fetish is what people have come to read for, its the main attraction. Literature simply cannot compete with the visual media when it comes to the act of sex, so you must focus on the psychology, what you can't see visually but what you think. Understand that most attraction is flipped on like a switch. There is some specific characteristic of the erotic work that instantly turns you on, and from there you can only maintain that deep arousal. All other things considered, this is what separates great from good or mediocre: can you both flip that switch and maintain it for the reader. This is what I think creates great erotica.

I've also read some that was just balls to the walls outrageous fetish fuel. That's also pretty effective but I feel that more stems from its originality. "Wife having sex with boss' dog for a Japanese business convention" is something that I imagine would require a lot of money to show visually, not to mention the ethics involved. Writing also allows you ultimate creative freedom. This might be something you want to pursue to its ends.
